Over 7500 UK dogs put down each year…..how can you help?

I was very pleased to be asked this year, if I would help support the Pedigree Adoption Drive 2011.

Did you know that last year over 120,000 dogs were abandoned in the UK – shocking isn't it….  Perhaps what's even more disturbing is the fact that 7,571 dogs had to be put down  – that's over 20 a day……

The Pedigree adoption drive was launched in 2008, since then, it had raised over £1 million pounds for rescue centres up and down the country, who work tirelessly to find new and loving homes for abandoned dogs.

Last year alone £1/4 Million pounds was given out in grants to help refurbish dilapidated kennels and provide desperately needed veterinary facilities.

So how can you help?

This year, the campaign is all about saving abandoned dogs from their last walk – the walk that sadly ends in a vet's room where they are put down.

For one week only (17th – 21st October 2011) dog lovers everywhere are being called upon to take part in the world's first "virtual dog walk around the web."  You will be able to take Ripley for a walk.

Ripley cute Our virtual dog will walk across beaches, forests and parks. These will be real websites of places where a dog would love to go on a walk.

With each walk, users can interact and play with Ripley and every completed walk will unlock a £1 donation from Pedigree until the £100,000 target is reached.

On the 17th October 2011, our website will be updated with a "Virtual Kennel" and you will be able to take Ripley out for a virtual walk, as many times as you like for the rest of the week!

Please help save some of these dogs from their last walk…….
